*****NEW SERVICE COMING TO THE JCFC*****
In response to the North Bay fires that devastated our community, the Jewish Community Free Clinic (JCFC) announces the expansion of our case management and mental health services. This expansion will include the opening of a new program, JCFC Solution Focused Brief Therapy, scheduled to begin June 2018. The program goal is to provide critical mental health and support services to our clients as well as to those affected by the devastating fires. Based on our volunteer model, volunteer therapists will offer short term therapy to those in need at no cost. This program has been generously supported by the Redwood Credit Union Community Fund in partnership with the Press Democrat and the Office of Senator McGuire.
As a consequence of the fires, low-income individuals and families have been further marginalized. Demand for JCFC free services have increased more than 25% compared to last year. Clients are facing additional problems including a severe shortage of affordable housing and fewer public services. These problems subject people to unbearable stress and other mental health challenges.
The JCFC provides a welcoming place for clients to come in their greatest time of need. Expansion of mental health services will provide direct relief to those most needing support. Licensed mental health professionals will be needed to carry out this mission and we are actively recruiting volunteers now.
Solution Focused Brief Therapy is an evidence-based behavioral health intervention approach that provides short-term therapy to clients. This short-term therapy intervention will be available to adults living with impairing symptoms of depression or anxiety who would benefit from compassionate solution-focused therapy from a mental health professional volunteer.
We are currently seeking to fill a paid position for a Mental Health Supervisor. The job description can be found on our website at jewishfreeclinic.org/job-openings/. We are also interested in recruiting volunteers and student interns in the areas of social work and mental health. The JCFC provides malpractice insurance for those working on-site with JCFC clients. Time commitment may be flexible according to the volunteer’s availability. Services will be provided on-site at the JCFC at 50 Montgomery Drive in Santa Rosa.
